I have quite a few conversations via YouTube email regarding shirt printing… I had lengthy discussions with one fellow in particular who is quite skilled with the x-acto blade. His name’s Nathan Ross. He sent me links to some of his work and said it was ok to add his photos to my blog…

He made (and sold) these car prints using x-acto cut stencils:

He said he’s been working on some shirts using the stencil method I discuss in my stencil screen printing videos… Until I get those pics, here are some tshirts he did with photo emulsion:

Jesus Christ SUPER SHIRT from Mark Bee

My friend Mark Brown (check out the Mark Brown solo music projects and his band, Red Shade Blue) watched my stencil tshirt making tutorial and then made and sent me a shirt…

Here I am proudly wearing it before Brandy and I went out to pint night (it’s a logo from Jesus Christ Super Star):

Mark Bee and I are both big fans of the incredible rock opera Jesus Christ Super Star. Here’s my favorite jam:

Kristin Shirts: More Stencil Prints by Kristin!

My friend Kristin Munro-Leighton makes shirts using the same stencil and screen method that I use. LOTS of people use stencils and brushes or stencils and rollers. Only 3 people that I know of use stencils and screens.

Kristin’s work is awesome because it’s always highly personal, for friends and family and has inventive bridges or breaks in the design so that she doesn’t create any unattached islands.

I asked her to send me photos of her work and she did! Here they are, followed by links to her other designs that are already up. I don’t have the story on most of these shirts… and believe me, there’s LOTS of story about them!

This one has incredible bridges but they don’t show well in this photo… I always like to look at this one up close and admire her cutting!

These cloggers have a lot of life and motion to them… plus she stencil cut a flowing script. Wow!

This one is pretty blurry… I’m pretty sure it’s a print for a friend who likes cooking.

I have a print of this one in red – I love the flowing swirlies coming off the dragon’s body.

Kristin spent time in China… can you tell?

Also, Kristin is an activist.

North Carolina Design

My wife (you probably know her as Roxy Rockett) designed this simple and highly wearable design of the state of North Carolina. You don’t have to take this shirt off and spin it around your head like a helicopter… you’re already representing hard enough just by putting it on.

Chemistry TShirt

Kristin designed this shirt for her sister, Colleen Munro-Leighton who’s studying for her PHD in chemistry at NCState. This represents a molecule that Colleen made. I can’t pronounce it but it does have the phrase “nac-nac” in it which makes it a favorite amongst friends and family. This shirt blew my brains in terms of its detail and fine cutting skills.

4 Dimension Cube

Emily Saltzman designed this shirt – inspired by a math class at Warren Wilson. She cut the original stencil out of a brown paper bag if I remember correctly.

If you look at it right you can see the multi-dimensional cubes built around each other in some wonderful geometrical goodness.

Rhubarb Pie Shirt

Arlyce Menzies drew this image, but I think I cut it… and her brother came up with it. His girlfriend challenged him to change his pessimistic outlook on life and so he asked for help making a shirt that showed one of the things in life that he really really likes.

I think it’s a wonderful design!

Over the years Kristin has given me a shirt or two that I especially admired. This one faded so wonderfully and it’s on a nice royal blue shirt that’s kind of thick but really really soft. She gave it to me, lucky me!
